Standards & Regulations
There are many different RF safety standards and regulations used throughout the world. They are all RF exposure standards, with the exception of the standards dealing with microwave ovens. Microwave oven standards are based on emissions levels rather than exposure levels.
This section of the Web site covers the following four major exposure standards:
- U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Regulations
- Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard
- Canada’s Safety Code 6 Regulations
- International Council on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) guidelines
These standards are featured because
- they represent large areas of the world in terms of use.
- they are the standards on which the shaped-frequency response products such as the Nardalert XT and RadMan RF personal monitors plus shaped-frequency response probes are based.
- many of the other standards have exposure limits that are very similar to one of the four major standards. For example, the exposure limits used in Japan are identical to those of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
